I went along an autumn road to see a friend of mine
He sent me word to come to him; he wasn't feeling fine.
He had a great old house, he did, with just two people in it;
once upon a time twas mighty, but now's just grime and grit.
The house had held this family for age upon an age,
The family had reached it's end, it's hist'ry's final page.
But 'tis the house I will describe, before I go to Rod,
Time had stained the masonry; had tainted the façade
with many tiny fungi, and crumbling of bricks.
house lay by a stagnant lake, all full of rotted sticks.
But even with decrepitude apparent to the eye,
the house did not appear to be about to up and die.
But as I come into the house, I'll tell you of my cause
for coming to the dismal place. It starts with Roderick's flaws.
My old school friend had called on me to come spend time with him
His nerves were shot, and times for him were looking pretty grim.
A servant in my friend's employ had led me to his room
On the way all I could see was filled with dread and gloom,
And my friend Roderick, Roderick Usher wasn't in good health,
and his fruitless search for help wasn't aided by his wealth.
But Roderick's foul condition wasn't merely his to bear
a similar morbidity possessed his sister fair.
She seemed at times a deathly corpse, with rigor mortis in,
she only seemed alive these times by the warmness of her skin.
But back to my friend Roderick, I stayed with him for days
He couldn't hear most music or endure the solar rays.
He'd listen to a guitar, when his hand touched the strings
he sang a song of madness: within me it still rings.
After this, his sister died, but still looked quite alive,
we kept her in a powder vault to prepare ground for the dive.
a few nights hence, we had a storm, a gale of awesome power.
A glowing mist came from the lake, and made old Roderick cower.
I had to him down to calm him while I read a book.
but as I read the book to him, the night a strange turn took.
The sounds I read out from the book did echo from outside
And Roderick started freaking out, and then the door swung wide:
His sister in the doorway, with fury in her eyes,
buried prematurely, she came seeking Rods Demise.
I saw what she was doing and I ran out for my life
For I had helped him bury her wanted not this strife
and as I ran from that old house, the gale collapsed it in,
when I looked backjust a lake where the House of Usherd been.
