So, I'm upset enough to break the trend I was trying to start of s-titled journal entries.

My cat went out this morning. Not unusual, it's allowed to go in and out as is convenient for us.

What is unusual is that now, 11 1/2 hours later, no one has seen it. And our across-the-street neighbor has a pit bull, and our cat can climb fences.
There is a significant chance that my cat is now dead.

I know that
It's possible that the cat is still alive. Sometimes cats disappear for longer than a day or two (even though this one never has)
It can be foolish to get really attached to pets, as in most cases, you survive the pet, so pets just set you up for being upset a lot.

Knowing those two things doesn't help a bit. I want my cat back, and I know I might not be able to, and I want to break that dog's neck if it had anything to do with it.
